Peel back the wrapper to remove the suppository and hold the blunt end
Lie on your side with your top leg bent towards your stomach
Relax, spread your buttocks and insert the suppository into your bottom, tip end first
Push it in as far as you can (at least an inch)
Squeeze your legs and buttocks together to help the suppository stay in

Watch this short video for instructions on how to use your mesalazine suppositories.

  • You might find it easier to use the suppository before bed
  • You can lubricate the tip of the suppository with water or a water-based lubricant to make it easier to insert
  • If the suppository comes out within 10 minutes of inserting it, don’t worry, try again with another suppository
  • Try not to do a poo for an hour after inserting the suppository to give it time to work
  • You may experience leakage during the night. Don’t worry, this is normal because the suppository starts to melt once it is inserted. You can put a towel down on your bed to absorb any leaks
